why active health psychology?

A practice worth

building your career at.

We’ve built something genuinely different. Here’s why our team loves coming to work.

A model that actually works

Active Psychology is our signature approach — combining exercise, movement, and evidence-based psychological intervention. Clients engage more, outcomes are stronger, and the work is genuinely rewarding.

Elite sport at your doorstep

We're embedded in the NQ Cowboys High Performance Centre and work with the Townsville Fire and Mendi Blackhawks. Working with elite athletes and sporting organisations is a meaningful part of our practice.

Real supervision & growth

Provisional psychologists work under AHPRA Board Approved supervision on-site. We invest in our team's professional development, training, and career trajectory — not just their caseload.

A team you'll actually like

Small enough that everyone matters. Big enough to offer variety. Our team is collaborative, supportive, and genuinely good at what they do. No politics, no egos — just good people doing important work.

Townsville is a great place to live

World-class reef, 300 days of sunshine, low cost of living, and a thriving community. If you're open to North Queensland, Townsville offers lifestyle advantages that are hard to match in major cities.

Growing practice, growing roles

We're expanding our team and our services. Joining now means growing with us — with genuine opportunities to develop specialisations, take on senior roles, and shape the direction of the practice.

Questions about

joining the team.

If your question isn’t here, drop us an email and we’ll get back to you within a business day.

Do I need to be based in Townsville already?

Not necessarily — we’re open to speaking with candidates who are willing to relocate to Townsville. North Queensland is a fantastic place to live and we’re happy to discuss relocation support. Our roles are in-person at our Douglas and Railway Estate clinics, so Townsville residency is required to start the role.

Reece Danaher is an AHPRA Board Approved Supervisor, meaning provisional psychologists can complete their supervised practice requirements in-house. We take supervision seriously — it’s structured, regular, and tailored to your developmental stage and interests. Your pathway to full registration is actively supported, not left up to you to figure out.

No — prior experience in active psychology and/or performance psychology is not a requirement for most roles. What matters more is a genuine interest in, and openness to, these approaches. We provide training and mentorship in our Active Psychology model as part of your onboarding. Curiosity and the right attitude matter more than pre-existing specialisation.

Caseloads are diverse and manageable — we don’t believe in burning out our psychologists. You’ll see a mix of presentations across age groups, with the ratio depending on your interests and experience. Provisional psychologists typically start with a smaller, closely supervised caseload that grows as confidence and competence develops.

Yes — we’re open to discussing part-time or flexible arrangements, particularly for experienced registered psychologists. We want to attract the right people and are willing to work with your personal circumstances where we can. Mention your preference in your initial email and we can discuss further.
