Whether you're a teenager or a parent —
this page is for both of you.
You don't have to pretend you're fine.
Therapy with us isn’t about telling you what to think or pushing you to talk before you’re ready. It’s a space where you can work through what’s happening without judgement — at your pace.
- What you share stays confidential** Your parents won't be told the details of your sessions
- A parent is required to book on your behalf. If you are over the age of 16 you can book for yourself.
- Sessions are available in person or via telehealth — whatever feels easier
- No homework, no worksheets unless you want them — we work the way that suits you
** Key exceptions occur when safety is at risk, legal obligations exist, or as mandated by law. Your psychologist will discuss this with you at your first appointment.
You know something isn't right. Trust that instinct.
Parents are often the first to notice when something shifts — a change in mood, withdrawal, sleep issues, declining school performance. Seeking support early makes a real difference.
- You can book on your teenager's behalf — we'll explain what to expect before the first session. If you teenager is over the age of 16 they can book for themselves.
- Your teen's psychologist will keep you appropriately informed without breaching their trust
- Parent guidance sessions are available if you'd like support on how to best support your teenager
- Medicare rebates may apply with a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan
How we work
with teenagers.
Adolescent psychology can be effective when it meets teenagers in their world — not in a clinical office environment that feels like an extension of school.
Our psychologists are direct, honest, and genuinely interested in what’s going on for you. We don’t use jargon. We don’t tell you how you should feel. We work at your pace and build strategies that fit around your actual life.
Active Psychology — our signature movement-based approach — is particularly well-suited to teenagers who find sitting still in a traditional therapy room difficult. Walk & Talk sessions, exercise-based interventions, and outdoor formats are all available.
Appropriate confidentiality
What you share stays private. Your psychologist will explain the limits clearly at the start.
Honest, plain-language sessions
No jargon, no lecturing. We speak directly and listen more than we talk.
Walk & Talk options
Sessions conducted walking outdoors — better for teenagers who struggle with traditional therapy formats.

Questions from teenagers
and their parents.
The things most commonly asked before a first session — from both sides of the conversation
Will my parents know what I say in sessions?
Your sessions are confidential. Your psychologist won’t share the details of your conversations with your parents without your consent. There are limited exceptions — for example, if there’s a serious safety concern — but your psychologist will explain these clearly at your first session. The goal is to give you a private space to be honest.
Can my teenager book themselves, or do I need to do it?
Parents/legal guardians are required to book on behalf of the teenager (unless there are special circumstances).
If over the age of 16 years, a parent is not required to book on their behalf.
For Medicare rebates to apply, a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan is required — which typically involves a parent for younger teens. Call us and we’ll talk through the simplest way to get started for your situation.
How do I know if my teenager needs psychology or just time?
If the change you’re noticing has been going on for more than a few weeks, is affecting daily life (sleep, school, friendships, eating), or if your teenager has said anything that concerns you — it’s worth a conversation. Early support makes a real difference. You don’t need to wait until things are serious. If in doubt, call us and we’ll help you work out whether now is the right time.
What if my teenager refuses to go?
This is very common. Forced attendance rarely works — but sometimes a gentle conversation about what sessions actually look like (not what they imagine) helps. You’re also welcome to book a parent consultation session for yourself, where we can talk through how to approach the conversation with your teenager and what to do in the meantime.
Does psychology actually work for teenagers?
Yes — the evidence is strong. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and performance psychology approaches all offer support specifically for adolescents. The key is fit — the right psychologist, the right approach, and a teenager who feels safe enough to engage. We work hard to get all three of those right.
The first step is just
a conversation.
No referral needed. No long waits. Request an appointment online or call us — we’ll make sure your teenager is matched with the right person.
